Your "truth" section made me think of something. I think the "polite lies," as you say, are partially why I have a sort of resistance to being "girly." The whole constitution of many things that encompass being "girly" are so superficial and highly conducive to such untruth. There is great emphasis on the outward appearance of things like hair, makeup, clothes etc. Compliments are centered around the same. I have no desire to be a part of any of this. I just want to be respected for who I am, regardless of my appearance. Being told that I'm a good friend or that I'm reliable, or nice, etc. mean infintely more to me than being told my hair looks good.
Well, I hope it is clear that I do not base who I am on what clothes I am wearing. I have no idea what instances in your life you are talking about with all this stuff, but if you have been hurt, I hope you are able to heal from that. Healing without the other person's apology is hard. Healing without forgiving the other person, regardless of their apology is harder.
